Impact to the Community

The Quemahoning Chillin’ for Charity Winter Festival & Arctic Splash

(formerly known as the polar plunge) began in 2011 when a group of community activists wanted to find a fun way to impact the community in which they live and work. With that, the opportunity to encourage friends, family and co-workers to take an icy dip in the freezing cold Quemahoning Reservoir while raising money for a worthy cause was created.

In 2015 the event changed to include and support multiple charities in the Cambria/Somerset region.  With this grass-roots effort, this event has grown…and has  raised over  $104,000 for local charities in the last 3 years.  This is money that stays right here, where we work, live and play and helps to support the community we call home. Not only have we raised money, we have raised awareness of all the good that is being done by so many, with the help of community supporters, who, in the same time period, donated over $132,000 in in-kind donations of goods and services to make this annual event successful.  Now THAT is community collaboration at it’s finest.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;

indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” …. Margaret Mead
